Adam Lambert is one of the greatest recent singers in the media that is liked by many people for his amazing style, music and personality. He was the runner up for season 8 of American Idol for which many people believe is because of him coming out of the closet. He is very open about how he is a homosexual and is proud about his sexuality which shows that he is not afraid to be himself. I really like this about him because he is not like most celebrities who are fake and you never know who they really are. He is very down to earth and a unique individual. Most people say he is the male version of Lady Gaga because of his style but I think that it is his own choice to dress like that and that he is not copying anyone. Just because his style is similar it does not mean that he is copying her. There are many people who hate Adam Lambert because he is homosexual and they say he looks like a girl. There are even hate groups for Adam Lambert on facebook and other sites who talk about how they hate Adam’s looks and music and I find it really hurtful to know that people are participating in this because I am a really big fan of his. Adam Lambert has released one album so far called “For Your Entertainment” that has an amazing variety of songs. His songs go from pop to rock to queen inspired songs. You can find a little bit of everything in his CD and that’s what I like, he doesn’t stick to one type of genre. He is now on his Glam Nation tour which I will be attending on June 19 and I am very excited to see what he comes up with because you can never know what to expect with him.

This image has a very powerful message that connects to a larger message and tells a story. This image is showing how McDonalds is killing many people or endangering their health due to the lack of nutrition in food from McDonalds. There is a heart rate monitor that is showing the golden arches of the McDonald logo representing the fact that McDonalds is causing many health problems and is one of the many causes of the currently ongoing problem of obesity in America. Many people eat McDonalds on a regular basis and will develop many health problems in the future. I think the main message of this picture is that people should watch the amount of McDonalds they eat and eat everything in proportion.

Should Music be Free?

Music can be downloaded by anyone for free in a matter of seconds by many different types of downloading software. There are very few people who actually pay for the music they download on their computer. In Canada it is not against the law to download music for your personal use. People take advantage of this because it is so much easier to download from software such as limewire then to spend money out of your own pocket to pay for a song. It is not necessarily good to be doing this because the artists are not being rewarded for their own music. We are basically stealing from the artists by downloading their music for free. Personally I think it is nice to own CDs of your favourite artists because it has the album cover and all the liner notes from the artist and it makes you feel more connected to the artist. Not only are you doing the right thing by paying for their music but it is also rewarding for you to know that you are giving back to your favourite artists.

How Teenagers are Depicted in the Media

Usually when people think of teenagers they see us as hormonal, angsty kids who are trying to rebel against the world. They think that we think we know it all when we know that we do not know it all, however we do know a far bit more then others assume we do. We are mostly thought of as jeopardizing our lives with alcohol, drugs and unprotected sex when in reality this is not the case for every teenager. The media portrays a message that all teenagers are trying to do is find out who they are and that is why they make mistakes but saying yes to drugs or alcohol, etc. In reality most of the time we make mistakes because we want to do it or because we want to try something new. Teenagers are definitely not portrayed in the media as someone you can trust because we are always thought of as the type who are going to steal or cause a lot of commotion. We can’t even walk into a store alone without the employees staring us down for fear of us stealing something. It is absolutely ridiculous what the media can make some people believe to think. Teenagers are shown in movies as the type who always party on the weekends and get drunk. Although this may be the case for some teenagers, it is not the case for many teenagers and this is not an accurate portrayal. In most movies and television shows you almost never see the teenagers doing homework or studying which many teenagers do during the weekend. They are not always partying because they do care about their future, even if the media thinks otherwise. Movies these days are always showing that popularity is the key to happiness for teens, when in reality not many people really care about who is popular and who is not. For many teens scoring a date with the hottest guy or girl in high school is not one of the main priorities they are thinking about. Unfortunately, movies and shows are very one sided and only show the stereotypical life of teenagers as opposed to reality. It is really sad to think that teenagers are being perceived as shallow and dumb individuals because of the media. People need to keep in mind that not all teens grow up in the same atmosphere and they o not all have the same experiences. We should not let the media alone define how teenagers live.

TWILIGHT TOILET PAPER!!!! :O

The over the top Pop culture artefact I found is TWILIGHT TOILET PAPER!!!! There is a web site where you can order your custom made toilet paper with any twilight picture you want on each sheet of toilet paper and they are charging ten dollars per role!! I think this is insanely absurd to have to use this when you go to the washroom and anyone who purchases this is extremely obsessed with twilight. The market is creating unnecessary products that they know fans will buy even if they are a waste of money. Personally I think it is creepy to have a picture of your favourite celebrity on your toilet paper and I would never invest in an item like this no matter how obsessed I was with anything. You are basically throwing your money away if you buy this because it gets flushed down the toilet anyways. I think our culture needs to stop producing unnecessary products such as this because they are black mailing fans into buying this just so they can make more money.

Is Barbie a Good Role Model?

Over the years Barbie has gone from being a princess, to a lawyer, to a pilot and has been a role model for many younger girls. However, she has not necessarily been a good role model for younger girls. I do not think that girls who are playing with Barbie’s should be worrying about fashion, makeup and boys they should be having fun as kids and enjoying their childhood.

Barbie is dressed in skirts that are way too short, high heels and a pound of makeup on her face not to mention her perfectly sculpted body to go along with that. Many girls have become self conscious about the way they look because they do not think they are as attractive as Barbie and have tried to alter themselves as much as possible to look like her. She has caused eating disorders for many girls because they want to have her body. This is outrageous because it is physically impossible to have a body like a doll since they are molded perfectly by machines and humans are not produced in factories.

Walking down the hallways of schools seeing young girls that are stick thin, with tight provocative clothing is nothing unusual today. These girls are replicas of the Barbie dolls that they use to play with just a few years ago. Barbie dolls were one of their first role models and she has stuck with them ever since a young age. Every girl wants to have pretty clothes, hair, and makeup and be skinny because of the influence Barbie was on them in their childhood. It is not a good thing because girls should be who they want to be and not feel pressured to look like a Barbie doll.

Although Barbie has many different jobs and is encouraging girls to pursue any career they want, she is doing it in the wrong way. Barbie is shown as putting looks and fashion before work, portraying an image that your looks are more important then your career. It is not a good message that younger girls should be exposed to because they think that it is the right way to live since Barbie is that way. In the future the effects of Barbie will faintly be there even if the child does not think so there is always a way that Barbie changes you in some way. In my opinion I think that parents should let their children play with Barbie’s, however they should have other dolls to play with too since Barbie is not a good role model.

The Positive Effects of Technology

Technology has become a crucial part of society’s daily life. It has saved people lots of time and effort and benefited society greatly. From being able to talk with hundreds of people on facebook, twitter, msn and via text it really is a handy tool that most people cannot live without on a daily basis. Computers have changed the world in so many ways and have helped the media grow. Advertisements can be viewed by consumers within seconds on the internet. Almost every household owns some sort of technology in order to save time or provide entertainment.

One of the most common forms of communication is by cell phone whether it is texting or talking on our cell phones. It is very convenient to communicate with people in different countries on a regular basis or stay connected with people that you do not see often. Another one is facebook which almost every person uses on a daily basis whether it is to talk with friends they see regularly or reconnect with people you haven’t seen in awhile facebook is a convenient and free form of communication for everyone. Msn messenger came before facebook and is also a very convenient way to talk to people, however people prefer facebook because you can view pictures of your friends and it is a more interactive way to stay connected with people.

Technology is improving more to more everyday and digital television and digital cameras are of higher quality then they’ve ever been. This makes the viewers more interactive with their technology, creating a very pleasant experience for them. The new 3D television is one of the newest technologies that make the viewers feel like they are a part of what they are watching. It is an incredible experience that has become a trend and attracted many consumers.

Many machines are now taking up industrial jobs which is amazing because they can perform tasks that humans can physically not do. Although some may argue this is a negative use of technology, it is helpful for life-risking tasks that man cannot do such as space exploration and mining. It is amazing how machines can now help out to save lives and save us money at the same time. Even though it is taking away jobs of some people, at the same time it is helping out.

Technology has completely changed our lives and helped make them easier. Even though it has caused some problems there are many more positive effects then negative effects of it. There are so many positive effects of technology on society and it is almost impossible to list them all. These are just few of the many popular sources of technology out there in today’s society.

The Effects of the Media on Teenage Girls

“Be the girl all the guys want”; “Get a hot body in less then a month!” “, “Get picture perfect hair” these are just a few of the slogans teenage girls are faced with on a daily basis. They are constantly being reminded to look pretty and act a certain way which causes pressure for many of them. The average north American girl will watch 5000 hours of television a year in which they will view 80 000 different adds reminding them to look a certain way. They are surrounded with unrealistic female beauty by their role models on television and strive to look like them. If they do not feel like they have attained that look they loose self confidence and are not pleased with their appearance. The pressure is also increased for girls in fashion and advertising by portraying very young girls in sexual ways. It pressures girls to act that way and do things they should not being doing at such a young age.

Studies show that teenagers who have a daily consumption of media usually have a negative view of themselves. Most popular television actresses are becoming thinner and thinner over the years. There are even articles in magazines encouraging girls to loose weight in order to have a happier life. By doing this the media makes the consumers insecure about their bodies which strives them to go out and buy beauty supplies, new clothes and diet pills. Many girls even start to smoke in order to become thinner. By exposing all these images of unrealistic beauty the media is creating more depression and unhealthy eating habits in teenage girls. The media is sending a message that the female body always needs to be improved. This leads to teenagers competing against each other for male attention.

Teenagers rely on the media to define and explain the world around them because of all the changes going on in their lives. They are constantly comparing themselves to situations and celebrities in the media. They are the most vulnerable to media messages and are always trying to model their lives around the media. They look to the media to find their place in society because they are still trying to figure out who they are. Each form of media influences teenage girls in different ways but it is all so they can feel a sense of belonging. Teenagers do not know what they want and the media takes advantage of this by bombarding them with hundreds of different advertisements a day. It is not morally right because they are constantly looking up to different people to follow their footsteps instead of following their own.

Movie Sampling

Most movies have similar things in common; however some movies go too far to the point where they are directly copying from another movie. There are certain movies where you are watching and there are specific scenes where you feel like you are watching a scene from another movie you have seen. This is due to the fact that movies usually have similar story lines. We can see this a great amount in the movie “Iron Man 2”.

Many movie story lines have the amazingly good looking girl that all the guys are after or the dysfunctional family with a missing parent. There is also the typical horror movie with the not mentally stable psycho killer, or the typical action movie with the good guys chasing the bad guys for one reason or another. Although most movies have similar story lines, there are the exceptions that are completely different from anything anyone’s seen before. We can see this in the psychological thriller “Silence of the Lambs”. With its captivating story of the cannibal killer Hannibal Lecter it really is unlike any other movie made.

I recently saw “Iron Man 2” and although it was a pretty good movie over all there was one scene in particular that was more or less a copy from the movie “Silence of the Lambs”. It was during the middle of the movie when they take the psycho killer from jail and bring him to am airport pad to meet with someone. They had a fancy table set up for him with a luxurious meal because they wanted to make a deal with him to build robot suits in exchange for him getting out of jail. This was copied exactly from the scene in “Silence of the Lambs” where they take Hannibal Lecter out of jail and fly him into an airport pad in order to meet with someone that wants to question him. The setting was exactly the same with the fancy dinner table set up for him so that he would cooperate. There was also another scene where they take away all the killer’s possessions and lock him in a room because he is not doing his job properly. They have two guards watching over him and the killer ends up killing both of them. In “Silence of the Lambs” there was a scene where he was locked in a secluded cell that was being watched over by the government because he was being bad and two guards came to give him dinner and he ended up killing both of them.

I don’t think that these scenes were intentionally copied; however I recognized them right away because they were very similar. I think that movie directors should be more careful when planning a movie to avoid having similar scenes from other movies and to make their movie unique.
